Austrian Airlines Up for Sale

ABTN : "The Austrian government is to put up for sale its 43% holding in Austrian Airlines, the national carrier. A member of the Star Alliance, it owns regional carrier Austrian Arrows and Lauda Air, and has a 22.5% share in Ukraine International Airlines. The majority of shares is held as floating stock (48%) with the balance owned by Austrian institutional investors."

The annual Skytrax survey among more than 15 million air passengers from 95 countries has again voted Austrians long-haul, Business Class catering service into first place. More Brits opt for Austria when booking a skiing holiday

Travelcounsellors "Ski holidays in Austria are proving more and more popular among British holidaymakers as the country outperforms other destinations in Europe.

Strong growth in the Austrian skiing holiday market has come at the expense of winter sports destinations in Andorra and Italy.

The annual Crystal Ski Industry Report, revealed that during 2007-8 UK bookings of Austrian skiing holidays rose by 2.8 per cent to 21.8 per cent of the market."

Now, in a first step, the company will be carrying out selective capacity adjustments in the coming months. The London City Airport and Chicago destinations will both be taken out of the schedule (from 18 August and the winter schedule respectively), while other targeted reductions will be made in Europe over the winter."
